When Inside hit Australian film festivals in 2024, including the Melbourne International Film Festival, SXSW Sydney Screen Fest and the Brisbane International Film Festival, it quickly became one of the homegrown titles to watch. If you missed it at the time, this thriller starring Guy Pearce (The Clearing), Cosmo Jarvis (Shogun), and Toby Wallace (Byriders) will be released in 2025. It should be at the top of your to-see list. It will be released in local theaters in February, and a trailer has just been released that shows why.
Guy Pearce (The Clearing), who just received a well-deserved Golden Globe nomination for The Brutalist and is set for an Oscar nomination for the same role, directs this film set in a prison. He plays Warren Murfett, a death row inmate. of parole. As he prepares to potentially earn his freedom, he is asked to take care of Mel Bright (Vincent Miller, Plum) after he is transferred from juvenile detention center to adult prison. The infamous and widely despised Mark Shepard (Cosmo Jarvis, Shogun) also provides guidance to the newcomers.
“Inside” does more than just put three men together in a powder keg in one location. It draws them into a violent conspiracy that could change each of their lives forever, while thoughtfully and empathetically pondering the consequences of their choices, influences, and inherited damage and trauma.
The cast also includes Toby Wallace (Byriders), Chloe Hayden (Heartbreak High), and Michael Rogo (Colin From Account), and the film is set to hit the big screen. It boasts an impressive name at home and abroad. “Inside” is the feature debut from writer/director Charles Williams, who won the Palme d’Or short film at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 for the equally excellent “All These Creatures.” Thomas M. Wright, the filmmaker behind The Stranger and The Unfortunate, is also on board as an executive producer.
“Inside is a movie that has been with me in one way or another for the better part of a decade. I wanted to make the kind of movies that resonated with me when I was growing up. Movies that are engrossing, often very “It’s a story that reveals a special world and a complex character,” Williams explains.
