Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was renewed early, with new cast members joining from New York Comic Con. The upcoming Starfleet Academy is a new show on Paramount+ that is set to be the 12th series in the comprehensive Star Trek series. Produced by Gaia Violo and starring Holly Hunter, Keris Brooks, Vera Shepherd, George Hawkins, Karim Diane, Zoe Steiner, Tig Notaro, Robert Picard and Sandro Rosta, the first in over 100 years follows a group of academy cadets.
Screen Rant attended the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con. During a special livestream from the Toronto set, co-showrunner and executive producer Alex Kurtzman announced that Starfleet Academy has been renewed for a second season. This news was announced ahead of the premiere of Season 1, which is currently in production and scheduled to premiere. Paramount+ also announced that She-Hulk: The Lawyer star Tatiana Maslany has joined the show as a special recurring guest star for Season 1, although her role has not yet been revealed.

The show starts off well

Both updates shared at New York Comic Con mean good news for the next Star Trek show. The show will feature a variety of established stars in addition to the well-known actors it already stars in, increasing its regular cast and guest cast, which already includes Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashea, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr. Some of the series regular cast members appear to be seducing. The fact that it has already been renewed shows that the producers are confident that the show will attract a similar audience.
Mary Wiseman appeared on all five seasons of Star Trek: Discovery as Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly.
Starfleet Academy has been positioned as the flagship program of the Star Trek series, and it seems likely that it will be positioned as one of the major live-action programs alongside Strange New Worlds. This comes at perfect timing, as many of the major original series that started Paramount+’s universe continuity are nearing the end or have recently gone off the air. This includes Picard, which ended in 2023, Discovery, which ended in 2024, and the animated version of Lower Decks, which begins its final season on October 24.
Our take on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy News
The show made wise casting choices
One decision that will likely contribute to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s longevity is the addition of Tatiana Maslany. Prior to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor gave an Emmy Award-winning performance in the Canadian science fiction show Orphan Black, where he played multiple clones with different personalities and scored a breakthrough performance. He proved his ability to lead a genre program. She brings that pedigree to a recurring role on this iconic sci-fi series, and the potential to imbue her character with a convincing humanity, no matter what species it turns out to be. There is.

After being closed for over 100 years, Starfleet Academy has reopened its doors to those wishing to pursue a career as a Starfleet officer. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy follows a new group of cadets as they come of age and explore their friendships, rivalries, and romantic relationships as they come of age and are threatened by a new enemy that could destroy the academy and the Federation itself. I will continue to build it.
