A new Star Wars movie has been officially announced. Title: Star Wars: Starfighter, upcoming films will be directed by stars Ryan Gosling and Sean Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine).
Confirmed, he took to the stage in Japan, a Star Wars celebration. There, Lucasfilm revealed that the film will be attacked by cinemas on May 28, 2027. They landed Smack in the middle of anniversary weekend in the US and planted the flag firmly as the next big screen chapter in Disney’s constant Star Wars universe.
Levi and Gosling joined Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Fironi to surprise Tokyo fans by appearing in person to make the announcement. The story is set five years after the Star Wars event. We’ll introduce Gosling as a character that remains rapped for now.

“This film is a new adventure, a new character, and takes place in a new period. It takes place after the battle of Exegol and after Episode IX.” “There are plenty of opportunities to tell the Star Wars story with all the heart, action and fun of Star Wars, but you can do it in a new way.”
Recognizing the size of the franchise, Levi added: “You take Star Wars and take on what this is loved. It’s scary… you’re scared, you’re nervous, you want to make it right.
Gosling was clearly excited to step into a distant galaxy, saying, “I dreamed of Star Wars before I saw it. It was always there… I think I framed my ideas about what the film was.”
He also praised the script, written by Jonathan Tropper (the credits include the Levy-directed film, The Adam Project. “The story has lots of adventure, mind, and original characters. It’s an opportunity to shine light on the sides of the universe that we’ve never seen before. And no one is more perfect than Sean. Sean is the best in it.”
“It’s a big galaxy out there.”
What makes a Starfighter stand out? According to Levy, the film is firmly outside of the Skywalker story. That’s because of design. “We’re fans too,” he said. “We spent our lives with that audience. We know how meaningful it means… But like Ryan said, it’s a big galaxy. And it feels like we’ll have an opportunity to do a film that gives us the DNA of Star Wars that we love, not a prequel, not a sequel.
Star Wars: Starfighter joins the growing slate of Star Wars films with his work on Lucasfilm. This includes the trilogy of James Mangold, Shermeen Obaid Chinoy, Taikawaititi and Simon Kinberg.
Star Wars Production: Starfighter is scheduled to begin this fall. That release date, again: May 28, 2027.
