star wars outlaws
Ubisoft
One of the big releases of this somewhat quiet fall is Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws. It’s a single-player game in a series that breaks the linearity of Jedi Fallen Order and, um, Jedi. Instead, you play a solo-like villain and blast through an open-world map, and reviews for this game have arrived.
They’re pretty good, at least for now. It’s not amazing, but it’s probably good enough for many Star Wars fans.
As of this writing, Star Wars Outlaws currently has a Metacritic score of 76 on PS5 with the most reviews (45). 77 (12 reviews) on Xbox and 77 (17 reviews, 1 rating) on PC. a distant outlier at 3/10).
On the good old “everything is 6-10 levels” video game scale, it’s solid in the mid-to-late 70s. However, like it or not, industry-wide standards for “really good” are usually 85 or higher. And if you’re over 90, you’re in the GOTY fray. These are loose rules, but the game was certainly popular in the 70s. These are good scores, about the same as what most of Ubisoft’s recent Assassin’s Creed games have gotten, if not better than some.

What are the critics saying? Sample score:
Dextero (8/10) – “Star Wars: Outlaws is soaring thanks to its epic open-world design, allowing you to freely traverse multiple massive planets brought to life with great attention to detail. It’s a safe and rather textbook story.” Washington Post (7.5/10) – “Why is the Ubisoft official so influential? A strong reminder of what made it so reliable and popular.” IGN (7/10) – “Star Wars Outlaws is a fun intergalactic heist adventure with great exploration, but also simple stealth features, repetitive combat, and… And it’s hampered by a few too many bugs at launch.” VGC (6/10) – “Star Wars Outlaws is a pulpy Uncharted-style adventure that doesn’t live up to its potential. Kei and Nix lead a great cast and tell a well-paced, punchy story, but the game’s reputation system and syndicate storyline feel undercooked overall.
So while it’s solid, it’s not an amazing smash critical hit. It’s a Star Wars game, and it’s not a disaster, so it’ll probably sell well. But in terms of these scores and pros and cons, it feels like just another Ubisoft release. I’d like to know what the fans, at least the fans who aren’t going to fight the game over a woman’s hairstyle they don’t like, think about this.
I haven’t played the review version, so I’m planning on starting early access this week. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s included.
