Squadron 42 was confirmed at this year’s Citizencon with a 2026 release date and 30-40 hours of gameplay.
The announcement came after the Squadron 42 demo at Citizencon. The demo gave a great introduction to the first chapter of the game, which features a space combat prologue that introduces players to the universe.
However, the demo was not without its problems. Two game crashes occurred during presentations that were played live on stage. The second crash was comically blamed on the computer rather than the game’s instability.
After the demo presentation, Chris Roberts took to the stage and reiterated that the game will have approximately 30-40 hours of gameplay and that the team is “confident” in the 2026 release window.
It’s no secret that Cloud Imperium Games has a tendency to miss their scheduled release dates, and it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to stick to their release dates. Earlier this week, Insider Gaming reported on some of the issues Cloud Imperium Games is facing with its development schedule.
Squadron 42 was announced on October 10, 2012 with the launch of Star Citizen and its crowdfunding campaign. According to the official website, as of this writing, Squadron 42 and Star Citizen has raised $729 million.
