Players are getting their hands on Space Marine 2, and early reviews sound positive. It’s time to wipe out the xenos!
A few weeks ago, we looked at initial responses from content creators, and the reviews were positive. It went into early access yesterday, and we’re finally starting to see reviews from the entire player community. As of this writing, the response on Steam is 74% “mostly positive.”
Now, this is actually after a bit of a rough start at 55%. However, I would also like to point out the number of reviews. 55% had just 600 reviews. It’s almost 10k now. That’s saying something for a game that’s still in the “early access” stage. It also holds a score of 83 on Metacritic for its value. Now, as far as I know, negative reviews basically fall into three categories.
Infinite “loading” bug “Ultrawide” no support “Stealth” installation of Epic Online Services – also for Steam users
Let’s talk briefly about those issues. As far as Epic Online Services goes, this feels weird. But the developers complied (as you can see above). This is for cross-play purposes and is not really needed. I know there are people who are very passionate about the whole Steam vs. Epic thing…and certainly it would be nice to opt in/out of it. I don’t have a dog in that fight and already use both for PC gaming, so I don’t really care.
I can understand the complaints against ultrawide. However, this is a “known issue” and we plan to get a patch to support this in September as per our roadmap.
The infinite loading screen bug is just that, a bug. It will also be a little frustrating if you bought the Gold or Ultra editions specifically for early access, but I’m sure this will also be a bug resolved. Welcome to the new game coming in 2024.
Other complaints I’ve seen range from “AI teammates are useless on harder difficulties” to “poor PC controls”. I thought the KB/M controls might be a little difficult to learn. I want to try them out and connect the controller to my PC. I remember having the same argument for the first Space Marine game, but I actually preferred the controller. As for AI teammates, well…do you want to bring a friend along for a higher difficulty or just lower the difficulty?
Well, as far as the sea of positive reviews goes…
There are a lot of meme reviews so I try not to post spoilers here. I chose these four in particular because I’ve already spent over 10 hours playing the game on each of them. If you want to know more, you can read the review yourself. But overall, the general consensus is:

People seem to be having fun and the game also includes elements like a post-campaign PvE mode and in-game PvP. If you’ve played it, please let us know in the comments so this discussion doesn’t contain any spoilers. thank you.
Oh, and as a fun little experiment, I decided to check out the review page again. In the time it took me to write this entire article (adding screenshots, creating thumbnails, etc.), I received nearly 500 more reviews.
There is definitely a player base that is passionate about this game.
Today might be the day to jump into early access…
