South Australia’s screen sector shines with 2025 AACTA Award nominations
9 December 2024 SA-produced and SAFC-supported productions nominated for 2025 AACTA Awards: ‘Territory’, ‘Musical Mind: Portrait in Process’, ‘Ladies in Black’, ‘Thou, Don’t Steal”, “Eddie’s Lil Homies”, “Speedway Murders”, “Dr Michael’s Australian Sleep Revolution” Mosley.
South Australian filmmaking, creativity and talent shine in the 2025 AACTA Awards nominations, with 40 nominations across 34 categories.
Following an exciting year for TV production in South Australia, five SAFC-supported series earned 15 nominations in the TV category. Original series ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’, ABC period drama ‘Ladies in Black’, Netflix ratings hit in territory, factual series ‘Australia’s Sleep Revolution’ with Dr Michael Mosley, and animated series on NITV and Netflix “Eddie’s Lil’ Homies.”
Thou Shalt Not Steal, which was filmed in South Australia and the Northern Territory last year, won eight awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Actress for Shelley-Lee Watson, Best Actor for Noah Taylor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. was nominated for. Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Sound.
Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley was nominated for Best Documentary or Factual Program and Eddie’s Lil Homies was nominated for Best Children’s Program.
Funded by the ABC SAFC Content Pipeline Fund and filmed at SAFC’s Adelaide Studios and locations around Adelaide, Ladies in Black won the Best Production Design Award for SA Production Designer Michael Rumpf. , was nominated in three categories: Best Costume Design Award and Best Hair and Makeup Award. Territory, which premiered on Netflix in October to huge viewership numbers, received a Best Actress nomination for Anna Torv and co-starred with SA sound experts Josh Williams, Pete Smith, Duncan Campbell and Tom.・Heusenroder was nominated for the Sound Award.
Horror “Midnight with the Devil”, executive produced by Julie Ryan of SA’s Cyan Films, won a massive 14 awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Supported by SAFC and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund (AFFIF), the documentary ‘The Musical Mind: A Portrait in Process’ is produced by SA director Scott Hicks, SA producer Kelly Hasen AM and SA writer and producer Jett. Hasen-Hicks received three nominations: Best Documentary and Best Cinematography. The team, including SA cinematographer Emerson Hoskin, and SA sound experts Pete Smith and Tom Heusenroeder were once again nominated for Best Sound.
Supported by SAFC and AFFIF, the documentary Speedway Murder was directed by first-time SA director Luke Linderman, director Adam Kamien, and SA producers Anna Vincent, Bonnie McBride, and Lisa Scott, along with SA cinematographer Max Corkin. It was nominated for four awards, including Best Cinematography for Dale and Best Editing for SA Editor-in-Chief Sean Lahiff. Best Sound and Best Original Score from SA sound experts Michael Darren, Pete Smith, Des Kenneally and Hamish Keen.
SA-produced, AFFIF-backed horror film You’ll Never Find Me, directed by first-time SA directors Indiana Bell and Josiah Allen, was nominated for Best Independent Film.
SA PDV company Rising Sun Pictures won best visual effects or It received two nominations in the animation category. Post-production on both films was supported by SAFC’s SA PDV rebate.
Additionally, SA actor Sarah Snook was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for Memoir Of A Snail.

Winners will be announced at the 2025 AACTA Awards, which will be presented at two ceremonies on the Gold Coast on February 5 and February 7.
