Sophie Turner has opened up about the embarrassment she has felt as a working mother ahead of the release of her new series Joan.
The Game of Thrones actress spoke about her struggles in an interview with The Sunday Times.
“There’s so much shame that comes with being a mother,” she told the magazine. “I feel embarrassed when I go to work. I feel embarrassed when I don’t go to work.”

Turner, 28, is mom to daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with ex-husband Joe Jonas.
Joan tells the story of British jewel thief Joan Harrington, who was nicknamed “The Godmother.” She was also a single mother.
The actress was reportedly on the set of the series when news first broke that Jonas had filed for divorce.

Turner spoke about the support he received on set during a difficult time.
“If I hadn’t become a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to put as much energy into this work as I did,” she said of playing the character.

“Being a single mom is so hard. Joanne doesn’t approach things in the best way… but it’s great to see her really fighting for her daughter.” she says.
Turner and pop star Jonas married in 2019, but separated four years later in 2023.

Shortly after filing for divorce, Ms. Turner filed a lawsuit against Mr. Jonas, claiming that he was seizing her daughters’ passports and preventing them from returning to their “habitual residence of the United Kingdom.”
In response, a representative for Jonas said the children “have not been abducted” and that Jonas is “exploring co-parenting with the children so that they will be raised by both their mother and father.” He clarified.
The following month, the two reached an agreement on a child custody arrangement, and Ms. Turner dropped her case against Ms. Jonas in January.

Turner spoke to British Vogue about her pain when Jonas filed for divorce.
“I remember being on set and I couldn’t leave because I was contracted to be on set for two more weeks,” she told the outlet.
“I couldn’t reach them because my kids were in America and I had to finish ‘Joan’. And then all these articles started coming out…”

She said of her struggle: “I’m really torturing myself about all the things I do as a mother. The mother guilt is really strong!”
The two confirmed their breakup in a joint statement on social media.
