Sniper Elite: Resistance is functional where it counts, but plays something a little too safe

I have been a huge fan of the Sniper Elite series for many years and have personally loved the gorgeous new locations and crazy missions that each installment brings. Sniper Elite: Residance drops the trend in numbers from its predecessor, but this latest entry feels more like a side step than going a step ahead.

But that’s not a bad thing. From bigger open-ended missions to functional gameplay and satisfying X-ray sniper killings, it has a lot to love. However, I can’t help but feel that the game is not set to fix that flaw.

New Snipers, Same War

Farewell to greeting series veteran Carl Fairbahn and British SOE agent Harry Hawker. Harry himself isn’t necessarily deep or memorable, but I can appreciate the move to a bit of a comedic approach as Harry preys on some interesting one-liners after he sends his enemies in style .

There are no many stories here set in 1944 in Vichy France, the Nazi-occupied region of the country’s southern part. Harry’s adventures essentially make him fall in several places around the country, sending important enemies, destroying military assets, destabilizing the Nazi occupation of France, and the second We see World War II essentially destabilize to aid resistance as it approaches its end.

Sniper Elite: Resistance follows in the footsteps of his older brothers, but it feels like the more grounded and linear narrative helps to set him apart from Sniper Elite 5. Of pacing. Here you will stop in an area with a specific purpose, destroy everyone from afar, and proceed towards the map when things are nearby when they are hairy.

A suitable tool for your work

On the other side of that coin, Sniper Elite: Resistance holds the same sturdy gameplay of its predecessor, adding some amazing additions to enhance the overall experience. X-ray sniper killing is still a star of the show in many ways, as the camera follows bullets at the enemy. When it penetrates their bodies, we are proceeding to exclusively look at the damage you caused and point out when important organs, even test circles, have been destroyed. I say it was destroyed because the bullet simply crushes everything in its path, causing as much gore as humanly as possible. Even after all these years, it’s satisfying.

But improvement is how Harry can handle himself at close range. You can stop by your trusty sniper, as well as a central offensive weapon and pistol for when things get a little chaotic. Hold the trigger midway and aim for your weapon while looking over your shoulder view while aiming for your vision.

I feel that I’m aiming for a sight, but the view is a little too big and invasive, so the game feels completely capable as a standard third-person shooter. When squatting, you automatically take the cover behind the cover, and Harry can also climb enemies and grapes to gain an advantage over enemy soldiers. It gives it a little more versatility rather than having to resort to snipers for any situation.

You can also access accessories such as the Panzer Faust for taking tanks and traffic areas. Once you complete each mission, you can also unlock new weapons and equipment. You can understand the fact that Sniper Elite: Resistance is taking a little more action than stealth. And while it’s difficult to survive against a larger group of enemies, you rarely punish you for playing how you’re suited.

The war is intensifying

If the main campaign isn’t enough, Sniper Elite: Resistance packs a substantial amount of content with new modes for both co-op and competitive play. But the first thing I touch on is the new propaganda mission. These missions can be accessed by finding and collecting specific propaganda posters on each main mission. This allows you to play a variety of characters during other periods of the war. Usually, each mission leaps towards sniper, combat, and stealth, and the experience points obtained here can even unlock additional rewards like the completed new weapon.

The entire campaign can be done collaboratively or alone, allowing friends to tackle their goals in a variety of ways, and in any order for a faster, more systematic approach. It’s always fun to just link and watch them run in confusion as they pick up enemies surprises from two different directions and watch your plans exist.

You can also dive into other players’ missions with invasion capabilities, like the Sniper Elite 5. I initially found this fun and it is also a great way to farm XP, but I’ll admit, if you’re already struggling with AI or more stringent difficulty setting, it’s It can be annoying, you just have real player stalking and stalking to destroy you. That being said, you can turn off this feature so that players don’t constantly jump into your mission.

Finally, competing multiplayer modes are also available. This will provide standard fares for multiplayer modes. As far as modes and mechanisms go, it’s not something you’ve ever seen before, but it’s a welcome addition for diversity.

Please look at the parts

Sniper Elite: The resistance appears to be very similar to the Sniper Elite 5. This is understandable considering it runs quite well with developer Rebellion’s internal Asura engine. It is still incredibly clean and works very well. There are some muddy textures and pop-ins, but I was impressed by the extent of each map and the draw distance that helps its sense of openness and freedom.

But on the other hand, Sniper Elite: resistance is either a bit of awkward animation or under certain lines or circumstances or overreactions, so even some stupid expressions about Harry are in strangers. there is no.

Even on the PlayStation 5, things are held at a steady 60 fps, with little or no framerate drops always a plus, even in chaotic situations.

Final thoughts

Sniper Elite: Resistance is certainly functional and sometimes really fun. Although we borrow a lot from our predecessors, some new features like propaganda missions can add to the variety, along with the impressive amount of modes that are on offer.

X-ray sniper killcams are still fun, but if it’s not yours, it hasn’t changed over the years. Harry is currently equipped to deal with any situation, giving players more confidence and allowing the game to play like a solid, traditional third-person shooter.

If the previous sniper elite games attract you, you’ll see that something is being checked here. But if you’re not a fan, I don’t know how many sniper elite: resistance is trying to do to win you.

3 stars (out of 5)
