Apple TV+ has dropped the official trailer for Smoke, a gritty new crime series that reunites Taron Egerton with author creator Dennis Lehane. (And if you’ve never seen the Black Bird, consider this as your nudge!) Check out the smoke trailer above and see more details below.
This time, the Emmy-nominated actors, Kingsman and Rocketman, play arson investigator Dave Gussen, who trades prison bars for burnt-out buildings and reluctantly chases them in a twisted pursuit across the burnt-down streetscape.
Broadly based on a true event, and inspired by the Firebug Podcast hosted by Kary Antholis, Smoke follows Gudsen to work with detective Michelle Calderone (played by Bird of Prey and Lovecraft Country Star Jurnee Smollett) to track down arrogant characters who are only fire-breathing. And, as the trailer suggests, it appears that Gussen himself has a suspicious light on it.
Smollett and Egerton lead a loaded ensemble that includes Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear and John Leguizamo.
And yes, that voice you hear in the main theme is actually Thom Yorke. It composed and performed the show’s main title track, “Dialing In,” and is now available on music platforms such as Apple Music.
Dennis Lehane (his resume as a novelist includes highly acclaimed works such as Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, and more) has created a series and created an executive. Star Egerton is one of the executive producers.
Smoke will premiere worldwide on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 27th, with the first two episodes dropping at once, followed by weekly episodes from every Friday until August 15th.
