Screen Australia and The Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) have announced seven participants from Creators, an acceleration program designed to provide Showrunner training and projects and pitching development.

Tamara Asmar (NCIS: Sydney), Anna Burns (Safe Home), Sarah Basiouni (Critical Incident), Glenn Dolman (Bloom), Michelle Oppen (East West 101), Jessica Tuckwell (Fake), and Monica Zanetti (While the Man is Away) will be adopted by the Emmy Awards Emmy Awards Award Melvoin. A very competitive showrunner training program for Writers Guild of America. Travel to Sydney in October to offer bespoke WGA-style training.

This marks the third edition of the initiative supported by industry partner Script Ink.

Bobby Romire, head of development at Screen Australia, said the agency is looking forward to how the cohort progresses through the initiative.

“Creators offer a unique opportunity for Australian screenwriters to hone their craft, build important connections, develop unique projects and establish them for success overseas,” he said.

AWG President Peter Mattessi said he is pleased to see the guild work again with Screen Australia and Script Inc to support the writers as key creatives in the screen industry.

“The Australian Writers Guild is excited to support a third cohort of screenwriters developing crafts through creators,” he said.

“This program will continue to deliver outstanding results for authors ready to take the next step in their career as showrunners and enable them to become creative powers and leaders in our industry.”

Shane Brennan of Scripted Ink was proud that the creators had established themselves as the premier career initiative for Australian screenwriters.

“The writer’s vision and storytelling skills are at the heart of commercially successful television, and this program equips our best writers with the skills and understanding needed to develop stories through every stage of production.”
