Screen Australia has announced the latest recipients of its Skills Development Fund and BTL: Next Step initiative. The recipients will share in more than $600,000 in industrial development funding.

Since its launch in April 2023, Screen Australia’s industry development initiative has provided more than $4 million in training and skills development for more than 480 people.
These initiatives were introduced to address skills shortages in junior roles and expand the capacity of Australia’s film industry workforce. The Skills Development Fund aims to help production companies, game development studios and film companies offer work-based learning, while BTL: Next Step helps mid-career practitioners upskill from their current field of expertise. We Bury Our Dead – WBTD Film Productions Pty Ltd: WBTD Film Productions, operating as The Penguin Empire, is a production company based in Western Australia. The funding will help WBTD Film Productions train three key personnel in the production office, art department, and electrical department for the production of We Bury the Dead, a new survival thriller feature film directed by Zach Hilditch. support and give them the opportunity to train with established industry experts. On-Set VFX Scanning and Digital Capture Technology – Myriad Studios VFX: Through the skills development plan supported by this funding, Myriad Studios will develop targeted skills to accelerate the growth and proficiency of its VFX scanning and digital capture technicians. Provide training, mentorship, and skills development opportunities. Key practitioners will be given the opportunity to work in active film production, building the skills of VFX crews across Australia and supporting development in areas where there are skills shortages. The Assembly – TAT PRODUCTIONS PTY LTD: This funding will support TAT Productions (trading as Helium Pictures), which provides career training and development opportunities to people from underrepresented backgrounds. Winners will receive a starring role in The Assembly, an ABC-commissioned documentary series that follows autistic trainee journalists as they learn and hone their skills in preparation for interviewing some of Australia’s most famous people. You can This work is dedicated to removing the stigma of living and working with autism. Winners will benefit from skills and development opportunities and will be supported by Bus Stop Films and Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia). Spit Film Skills Development – Spit Film Pty Ltd: Spit Film Pty Ltd is currently filming Spit, the sequel to the original classic Australian comedy film Gettin’ Square. Producers will use this funding to enable trainees to develop more advanced skills in four specific sub-standard areas. These areas include implementing a Deaf Awareness Plan for cast and crew, led by Access Coordinator Stephanie Dower and Deaf community advocate and actress Sophia Golan;
