SBS announced that James Taylor will step down from his role as managing director, closing his 13-year tenure with the public broadcaster.
After joining the company as Head of Corporate Finance in 2012, Taylor spent five years as Chief Financial Officer before being appointed Managing Director in October.
Before SBS he served as executive roles at Deloitte, British Communications, and ABC.
Mumbrella reports that Taylor is leaving to acquire position as managing director of OOH Media! Starting next year.
Taylor said it was a privilege to work with “a talented and dedicated team like this.”
“Today, we are extremely proud to reach the largest audience in our history, create more original local content than ever before and do it with unclaimed credibility,” he said.
“SB has a clear purpose: to serve, reflect and connect all Australians. Regardless of where their stories began or which language speaks. We strengthen society by sharing diverse perspectives and experiences, reflecting the rich and complex reality of modern Australia.”
By praised Taylor’s leadership, SBS Chair Christine Zitz pointed to the role of providing “world-class digital transformation,” implementing “end-to-end multilingual strategies,” and embedding First Nations storytelling through a “transformative plan of reconciliation action.”
“In its 50th year, SBS plans to expand to western Sydney, record highs staff engagement and the excitement building of the Men’s FIFA World Cup™ in 2026, James has put the organization incredible health,” she said.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank SBS for their thoughtful and dedicated leadership over the past seven years.”
Taylor will leave SBS in the coming months, and the SBS board will soon begin the recruitment process for a new managing director.
