The trailer arrived for Project Hale Mary, an upcoming sci-fi adventure from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Please see the trailer above for more information.
Based on a bestselling novel by Mars author Andy Weir, the film tells a middle school teacher (Gosling) who he is, how he got there, and how he wakes up alone on a spaceship. As fragments of his memory return, he begins to unravel the purpose of his mission: to stop the mystical universe’s threats slowly killing the sun. Armed only with scientific knowledge and an unorthodox mind, he faces the impossible task of saving humanity. Luckily, he may not be as lonely as he thinks. The Gosling participants were Sandra Huller (Autumn Anatomy), Lionel Boyce, Ken Leon and Milana Vindtrav.
The teaser trailer plays a blend of conceptual science fiction and heart movies with the character’s warning that “the sun isn’t the only one who dies.” “I understand the interests – I do,” he says. “But my place is in the classroom.” The trailer also teases the arrival of alien presence. This is a pivotal plot element that is central to the film’s emotional arc.
Gosling, who also serves as a producer, described the Cinemacon project as “an ambitious story of great scope,” saying, “I tried to put it on TV once.
The script adaptation was written by Drew Goddard. That particular adaptation was directed by Ridley Scott and became a significant and commercial hit, winning over $630 million worldwide and landing seven Oscar nominations. It remains Scott’s best-selling film to date.
The first feature of Project Hail Mary Marks Lord and Miller is their first gig since 22 Jump Street (2014) and a return to live action after leaving the story of Solo: A Star Wars. Their acclaimed animated works include winning the chances of Meatball (2009) and Lego films (2014), producing and writing Spider-Man, passing Spider-Man (2018) and Spider-Man: Spider-Vese (2023), and writing and directing the production of Mitchell vs. Machine (2021).
The film is becoming the leading 2026 tent pole for Amazon MGM Studios, along with a film shoot by Dune’s Greig Fraser.
Project Hail Mary is scheduled to attack cinemas on March 20, 2026. Sony Pictures will release the film in Australian cinemas the same month, but the exact date has not yet been announced.
