US network ABC has released the official trailer for RJ Decker, a new series led by Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy, Animal Kingdom) as a private investigator trying to outrun his past. Watch the trailer above and read on to find out what to expect from this quirky show set in Florida.
Scott Speedman is the lifeguard who takes care of your luggage.
Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, the series stars Speedman as a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con trying to reset in sun-drenched, crime-ridden South Florida. If there’s one thing the trailer makes clear, it’s that this isn’t going to be a smooth redemption arc.
Currently working as a private investigator, Decker works on a wide variety of cases, from the slightly bizarre to the truly bizarre.
Decker’s former journalist, Catherine Delacroix (Adelaide Clemens), who is still married to Fort Lauderdale Police Department detective Melody “Mel” Abloh (Bevin Bleu), remains firmly in his orbit. This dynamic alone is expected to create tension, especially in cases where the line between professional obligation and personal loyalty is blurred.
Jaina Lee Ortiz plays Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, the daughter of a powerful politician who shares a complicated past with Decker and could become his strongest ally or biggest culprit. Kevin Rankin co-stars as Decker’s former cellmate Aloysius “Wish” Aiken, adding another element of unpredictability to the mix.
The series is written and executive produced by Rob Doherty (Elementary), with Paul McGuigan (Luke Cage, Victor Frankenstein) directing the pilot and executive producing. Carl Hiaasen, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman also serve as executive producers, with Speedman also serving as a producer.
when and where to watch
In the US, RJ Decker will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, March 3 at 10pm, joining Will Trent and High Potential on the network’s Tuesday night lineup. The episode will stream on Hulu the next day. An Australian release date has not yet been confirmed.
