Netflix has released the official trailer for Rivers of Fate. Check out the trailer above and read what to expect.
Set in the Para region of Brazil, the River of Fate (also known as PSSICA) follows Janalis (Domiscilla Catte), a teenager who is lured by gangs operating along the river. As she is drawn into the heart of the trafficking network, the story expands to include Praa (Lucas Garvino), a gang leader who is caught up in a life he hasn’t chosen, and Marianel (Marleyda soto), who is on a mission to revenge his family.
Each character thinks they are marked by a curse (“Pssica”), and the series follows cross-section attempts to survive, let or revert the damage done.
The series is based on the novel Pssica by Edile August and is directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, two Popes) and his son Quico Meirelles (Joint Venture). The script comes from Bráulio Mantovani, Fernando Garrido and Stephanie Degreas.
The trailer presents a fast view of the world where Janalis is thrown in – violence, a river-bound criminal network, and the urgency of her situation. While she fights to survive, the others close from a different angle.
This looks like a drama focused on characters who are not surprised by their subject matter, dealing with human trafficking, organized crime and loss. The cast also features Ademara, Bruno Goya, Claudio Jaborandy, Luca Dan, Ricardo Teodoro, Sandro Guerra, Welket Bungué and Wesley Guimarães.
Rivers of Fate will premiere worldwide on Netflix on August 20th.
