“Revelation” trailer unveils dark Korean thriller from “Train to Busan”

Netflix has released the official trailer for Revelations, the upcoming Korean thriller directed by train to Busan and Hellbound Helmer Yeon Sang-Ho. The film shows a departure from Yong’s previous supernatural works, choosing instead to a psychological quest for faith, belief, and moral corruption. Check out the trailer above and see more details below.

Dive into psychological faith and obsessions

At the heart of the revelation is Pastor Min Chang. Min Chang is a man who believes he has a godly duty to punish the perpetrators behind the missing incident. His path clashes with Detective Lee Yong-hui, a ruthless investigator who is troubled by the vision of his late sister. Their opposite but equally obsessed beliefs push them down a dark, intertwined path.

Known for blending genre storytelling with deep theme undercurrents, Yong Sang-ho removes fantasy elements in his revelation and focuses on psychological and existential horror. “Many of the live-action films I’ve worked on dealing with surreal themes from the fantasy world,” Yong told Netflix’s website Tudum. “But this time I have ruled out the fantasy elements as much as possible. I wanted to portray real-world psychological elements, such as fantasy, delusions, trauma.”

The film, co-written by Choi Gyu-Seok (The AWL), adapts a 2022 comic of the same name. Choi reveals that the story stems from Yong’s long-standing interest in faith and belief systems. “I thought I could come up with a story that was intriguing and fascinating,” he shared.

Alfonso Cuarón joins as executive producer

Adding more weight to the project is executive producer who serves Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron (male child, Rome, gravity). Yong recalled Kuallong’s deep respect for the film, saying, “I remember showing him the first edited version and telling him he didn’t want to see it on a computer monitor. He emphasized seeing it in the screening room. (He) is a creator who truly respects the director’s vision.”

Korean Star Cast

The cast is led by Ryu Jun Yeol, credits that includes a taxi driver and eight shows, for the pastor sang Min-chan. On the other side of him, Shin Hyun Bean (hospital playlist Reborn Rich) plays detective Yong Hui, who describes the character’s screenwriter Choi as “stained in the sadness that he could crush her anytime.” The core cast is concluded by Shin Min-Jae (Jung_e, Parasyte: The Gray).

When will the revelation be released?

Netflix will premiere its Revelation on March 21, 2025.
