Looking back, the days may have been a bit of hatred when they were released in 2019. But with all the zombie fatigue from various shows, movies and even other games these days, it’s a really great line to walk.
However, there are a few things on the day that was remastered to enjoy and appreciate. One looks incredible. Even the base PS5 is full of details and full dual-sense support, new permed difficulty, and Horde Assault mode. Ultimately, it’s the best way to experience the game a few years from now.
Rather than diving deep into the core experience, we focus more on new features and updates. Check out the original daily reviews.
Will you ride or die?
Days is the same game you ultimately played in 2019. Now I won’t write it down, but here we’ll find the same story, Open-World, and general mechanics again.
The player assumes the role of Deacon Sent John, a former biker gang member. The butler unfortunately loses his wife Sarah and must continue in this new world with the rest of his friends and loyalty. However, a series of events soon led him down a larger and more epic path to discovering the origins of the virus that changed the state of the world.
Aside from the incredible performances of actor Sam Whitwor, the days rely on existing ratios that take emotional resonance and weight away from the story. Things get a little old before the credits roll when paired with repetitive missions that involve hunting supplies or taking out enemy camps. I’m not saying the story is bad, but in 2025 it certainly feels exhausted.
Response
The butler gets the job done with lots of brawls and long-range weapons, dodging both the various freaks and human enemies. Combat is relatively easy, but the amount of ammunition is very limited, so in most cases you will be pounding your enemy with what you can find. Butlers can also collect scraps and resources to create a variety of useful items, from bandages to Molotov cocktails.
The butler also needs to manage a bike that can be upgraded to the entire story. Regardless of the upgrade, you need to keep it in good condition, repair it when it gets damaged and continue to refill it with fuel.
As you start to rely on the same weapons and tactics, even if the repetitive mission structure falls a little, it all comes together to create a gameplay experience that feels abilities and diverse.
New mode
Thankfully, the remastered Days adds several features to sweeten your deals. First, players can dive into a new Perm-Day Placethrough. There’s even a new Horde Assault Mode. This feels like a simple arcade-inspired survival mode where you need to dodge the increasingly large waves of enemies. However, if you’re interested in playing the main story, you can also hand over your old PS4 save if you want to take it from where you left off.
Regardless of mode and difficulty settings, Remastered offers full dual-sense support with unique rumble prompts that add only adaptive triggers and immersion.
There are plenty of customizable accessibility settings, but this is always a welcome addition. Visually impaired players can adjust the overall game speed, turn on menu narration, and turn on specific audio cues that will prompt players when collectibles are nearby.
Please look at the parts
The remastered days simply look fantastic. It’s as good as visually seeing the remastered game’s appearance. Even on the base PS5, things are sharp, detailed and lively. While minimal things like facial hair look dense and detailed, the lighting effect and extraction distance are given a great boost to help the overall texture and cleaner environment.
Players can also choose from two gameplay modes: Quality Mode and Performance Mode. Quality mode basically adds that 4K resolution to add more detail, but lowers the experience to 30 fps.
Performance mode bumps its frame rate to solid 60 fps, and while things feel like they’re much better in gameplay, the resolution is immersed in 1440p. This is the general way to go. Because meeting crazy action set pieces with horde can immerse frame rates even in quality mode, so it’s better to use those higher frame rates.
PS5 Pro users will have access to the extended mode. This essentially enhances flashy lighting features, increases resolution and maintains smoother frame rates. It’s a great way to play, but playing this on the base console is not a contract breaker.
Final thoughts
At its center, it hasn’t changed much elsewhere. The mission is still very repetitive, with the story sometimes being a bit weaker and lacking the intended emotional punch.
But despite its flaws, the past was remastered as the best way to play this game. Thanks to the new Permedes difficulty and Horde Assault mode, you can simply enjoy it. It looks much better on the base PS5 or PS5 Pro.
3 and a half stars (out of 5)
Highlights: Visually stunning. Deacon is a well-balanced, active protagonist. New Horde Assault and Permadetah mode. Enough accessibility settings
Low light: An original and inactive storyline and a repetitive mission structure remains
