Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere as a direct streaming movie on Paramount Plus on January 24th, a date revealed during Trek’s panel discussion at New York Comic Con. Fans will finally get to see Star Trek: Discovery character Emperor Philippa Georgiou, played by Michelle Yeoh, use her Mirrorverse skills to become a secret space spy.
When we last saw Emperor Georgiou (an alternate-dimensional version of Captain Georgiou Discovery’s first season), she was blown into the past by a being called the Eternal Guardian. But before that, she was recruited as a member of Section 31. Section 31 is a secret organization that the Trek series often uses to illustrate that even the glamorous Federation has a shady side.
The film, originally announced as a TV series in 2019 and then reintroduced as a film, will depict her time as a Section 31 operative who “must come to terms with her past sins.” In addition to Yeo, Section 31 also stars Sam Richardson, Sven Rygrok, Omari Hardwick, Robert Kaczynski, and Miku Martineau, who plays “Young Philippa Giorgio.” Paramount Plus subscribers can stream it wherever the service is available on January 24th.
