October 2024 is shaping up to be a huge month for gaming. Huge horror titles like the Silent Hill 2 remake rub shoulders with major RPG releases like Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Spooky season traditionally coincides with big horror releases, but there really is something for everyone this October.

Whether you prefer cozy indie games or epic AAA action, every player should have something to get excited about this fall on PC, console, or Switch. To kick off the season, we’re highlighting all the major game releases scheduled for October 2024.

October 2024 is full of horror works

Silent Hill 2 Remake, Alan Wake 2 DLC, A Quiet Place, and more

It’s no surprise that October sees a ton of horror games being released, but October 2024 is packed with big horror releases unlike any other year in recent memory. From re-releases of classics, new installments of popular series, and bold new uncharted horrors, there’s plenty to be scared of this October.

Related Looking for a horror game this Halloween? Don’t make the obvious choice

Venturing off the beaten path with short and interesting horror games is the best way to celebrate Halloween, and there’s no shortage of great options.

Let’s start with one of the year’s biggest (and Oxtbeer’s earliest) video game releases: the Silent Hill 2 remake. Silent Hill 2 retells one of gaming’s most iconic ghost stories. The story follows James Sunderland, who descends into the foggy, forgotten town of Silent Hill in an attempt to understand the origin of a mysterious letter from his late wife. The Silent Hill 2 remake ran into seemingly endless controversy during development, as is always the case when a popular game like this is slated for a remake. But all of these fears will soon become reality with Silent Hill 2, scheduled for release on October 8th.

The Until Dawn remake will be released a few days earlier, on October 4th. Until Dawn, the first interactive horror offering from Supermassive Games, now best known for its Dark Pictures anthology, features a horrifying story, meaningful choices, and an all-star cast. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere and Jordan Fisher play a group of teenagers who visit a secluded cabin in the middle of the woods where a gruesome murder took place exactly one year ago. Anyone can probably guess what happens next.

On October 8th, the same day Silent Hill 2 releases, Alan Wake 2 will also receive a second DLC: Lake House. Far from being a stand-alone “what if” story in Night Springs, Lake House is expected to tie more directly into the main storyline of the Alan Wake series. It is also expected to explore the connections between “Alan Wake” and Remedy Entertainment’s other major surreal horror work “Control.”

Lake House borrows the pen name of Alan Wake’s head writer Sam Lake, who also lends his face to Alex Casey’s character.

Next up is A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, a horror game set within the film series of the same name. Featuring a unique stealth mechanism based on the monster’s ability to sense sound, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a new twist on survival horror for fans of the old and new film series alike. . It is scheduled to be released on October 17th.

At the end of the month, on October 22nd, comes No More Room in Hell 2, a co-op zombie game. Predator: Hunting Grounds, an asymmetrical survival game featuring aliens from the title film series, will be released on October 1st.

October 2024 is also a big month for movie, TV, and sports tie-ups

Patrick Star, Terminator: Survivors, Dragon Ball, NHL

October 2024 will feature several tie-in games from famous movies, TV, and sports series, starting with NHL 25 on October 4th. Released just in time for the actual NHL season, this latest installment promises increased realism both on and off. Move even off the ice with the new ICE-Q system for player AI. On the same day, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game will be released. It’s a colorful platformer much like “Battle for Bikini Bottom,” but with more emphasis on Patrick. It will be released to coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary this year.

Next up is Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero on October 11th. This is the fourth game in the Budokai Tenkaichi series of fighting games set in the Dragon Ball universe. This will be followed by another animated series adaptation, Beat ‘Em Up’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, on October 18th. A week later, open-world survival game Terminator: Survivors will be released on October 24th. The VR game Batman: Arkham Shadow is also scheduled to be released in October, but there is no exact date yet.

Tons of new and classic RPGs coming in October 2024

Dragon Age, Romancing SaGa 2, Metaphor: Refantasio, etc.

October 2024 is also a great month for RPGs of all types, including Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred season. Speaking of online RPGs, Amazon Games’ two major MMO efforts are getting new releases in October: New World of Eturnum Expansion in October; Throne and Liberty will be released on the 15th and October 1st.

When it comes to strictly single-player RPGs, October’s biggest release is probably Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest in BioWare’s long line of fantasy RPGs. Known for its customizable characters, varied storylines, and character romances, Dragon Age has since become a major name in the RPG field. “Veilguard” will be his first release in 10 years since 2014’s “Inquisition.” October 31st will be the last major release of the month.

And as a new property, “Persona” series director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro will be working on a new fantasy RPG – Metaphor: ReFantazio, scheduled for release on October 11, 2024. Collaborate. A new take on the classic press-turn combat system introduced in the Shin Megami Tensei series, Metaphor: ReFantazio promises a fresh new concept with a familiar style.

Fans of classic RPGs can look forward to two major releases in the classic series in October 2024. First, on October 24th, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, a complete remake of the original Romancing SaGa 2, will be released. One day later, the next installment in the pioneering Ys series, Ys X: Nordiques, will be released on October 25th.
