Disney’s live-action remake of Rapunzel has found a clue. Popular Australian actor Teagan Croft will play Rapunzel, and Disney Channel marquee actor Milo Manheim steps into the boots (and grins) of Flynn Rider.
The two take over the roles originally voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the 2010 animated film. This is a major step forward for a project that has been underway since 2024.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, reporting that Disney conducted an extensive search in the US and UK, with finalists screen-testing in London in December before the holidays. The studio is said to have taken its time making this decision, which makes sense given the level of love fans have for Rapunzel.
Who is the director and scriptwriter?
The production will be helmed by Australian director Michael Gracey, who has previously directed musicals such as “The Greatest Showman,” starring Hugh Jackman, and the obscure Robbie Williams musical “Better Man.”
The screenplay was written by Jennifer Katin Robinson, whose credits include the Netflix film “Someone Great,” the HBO Max film “Unpregnant,” and the Marvel film “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Kristen Barr is producing, continuing her long-standing relationship with Disney after projects such as Cruella and last summer’s Freaky Friday. Lucy Kitada is on board as an executive producer.

The lead couple has been cast, but Mother Gothel has not yet been decided.
Croft’s casting is a big change (and big moment) for the Australian actor. She is perhaps best known as Raven on DC’s Titans and also starred as sailor Jessica Watson in the true story film True Spirit.
Meanwhile, Mannheim has already become proficient in the Disney musical mode thanks to the Zombies series, and continues to expand his roles in Paramount+’s School Spirits and the stage revival of Little Shop of Horrors.
One major piece still missing is Mother Gothel. The role of the villain remains despite the departure of Scarlett Johansson, who was considered for the role at one stage.
The original Tangled grossed more than $590 million worldwide and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for “I See the Light.” The film received positive reviews from critics and received an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
