In recognition of her lasting contribution to Australian film and television, acclaimed writer, director and producer Rachel Perkins will receive the 2024 Australian Film Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
The honor will be presented to Perkins at the Screen Music Awards to be held at Narm’s Forum Melbourne on Tuesday, October 29.
With a career spanning more than 30 years, Perkins is known as one of Australia’s most influential directors. Her work, including Bran Nue Dae, Jasper Jones, Mabo, Mystery Road, Redfern Now, and Total Control, has won numerous awards. The establishment of Blackfella Films in 1992 was a pivotal moment for Indigenous representation in Australian media, producing works such as the ground-breaking SBS documentary series First Australians.
Perkins has been a prominent figure in the industry through leadership roles, including serving as commissioner of the Australian Film Commission and director of Screen Australia. This year she was appointed chair of the Australian Film, Television and Radio Schools Council.

Dean Ormston, CEO of APRA AMCOS, praised Perkins’ transformative influence, saying, “Her story is woven into the fabric of our nation’s stories and speaks to our common humanity.” “I encourage them to think about it,” he said.
The awards will be presented alongside a star-studded line-up at the Screen Music Awards, hosted by Susie Youssef and featuring guest presenters Elaine Crombie and Heather Mitchell AM.

APRA AMCOS and the Australian Film Composers Guild (AGSC) have announced the nominations for the 2024 Screen Music Awards.
Combining 29 first-time nominees and experienced film composers, the list includes compositions for documentaries, short films, advertising, children’s programming, feature film scores, and for the first time games/interactive media, unscripted music, and more. It spans 15 categories. reality tv.
