I video chatted with writer/director Miley Tannecliffe and producer Kate Sepalovich to talk about the Australian psychological horror thriller Procrivitas. Watch the video chat above and read the primer below.

Among the topics discussed were how the project first took shape (was it guided by thematic seeds or narrative triggers?), the film’s treatment of addiction and guilt, and how the team balances metaphorical and literal horror so that horror and psychology speak to each other. We also touched on the entity’s design: its hidden features, eerie presence, and possible influences that guided its appearance and movement.

We talked about casting, particularly the late addition of Rose Riley to play Claire, and how performance, preparation, and on-set flexibility shaped the character’s journey. The conversation also touched on Miley’s experience as a director as a first-time director, and the realities of creating mood-driven, subdued horror with limited resources.

Proclivitas opens at SXSW Sydney on Wednesday 16 October and will be released in cinemas across Australia from 19 February 2026. For the full Screen Festival program, visit sxswsydney.com.
