Prime Video has released the official trailer for Season 2 of Cross, the next chapter in Aldis Hodge’s crime thriller series based on the character created by James Patterson. Watch the trailer above, then read on for more details.
New threat reorganizes investigation
After a smash hit first season that drew more than 40 million viewers worldwide in its first 20 days, Cross returns with a new case and a new kind of pressure. The trailer introduces Lance Durand (Matthew Lillard), a billionaire businessman who calls the FBI after receiving death threats related to the murder of a billionaire playboy. Alex Cross and FBI agent Kayla Craig (Alona Tal) lead a joint operation to protect Durand and try to identify the killer who left behind a gruesome trail of clues.
This season also follows the relatively definitive end of season one. In the previous chapter, Cross finally outsmarted Ed Ramsey (Ryan Eggold) and rescued Shannon (Eloise Mumford), while a second threat to his family was neutralized before he could do anything truly terrifying. With both dangers contained and Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill) prepared to cooperate with the authorities, Cross appeared to be in a rare state of peace.
New faces, changing dynamics, and a tough road ahead.
Season 2 expands the ensemble with Lillard, Janine Mason, and Wes Chatham joining the cast, and the return of Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Woakes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, and Johnny Ray Gill, who steps up as a series regular.
Mustafa told TV Insider that viewers should expect the familiar ground to feel unstable this time around. “In the first season, you get to know everyone,” he explained. “Whatever you know about these characters in the first season, prepare to see something completely different in the second season. You’ll learn even more.”
Woakes echoed that sense of escalation, saying, “I want to say to the audience, ‘Hang on a second. It’s going to be a really tough ride, so have faith. And get your popcorn ready because there’s going to be a lot of fun.'”
Tal framed the new mysteries as being more emotionally weighty than the previous ones: “There’s something about the mysteries in season two that touched me on a very personal level. It doubled down on the emotional investment from the mysteries in season one, and as a woman, I’m still invested in the mysteries. And that goes even further in season two.”
