There will be no escape from Lumon Industries. Apple TV+ has confirmed that Severance will return to its third season!
The exciting and obviously unsurprising announcement follows a record-breaking success in the second season. Apple has promoted Severance as the most viewed series to date, and has performed better than other streamer shows like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and Slow Horses. It’s not a bad outcome of the show about work-life balance struck by nightmare extremes. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning thriller has been a huge hit since its debut, earning praise for its volatile worldbuilding and inspiring commentary on corporate control, cult structure and more.
The retirement comes from executive producer and director Ben Stiller and creator, writer and executive producer Dan Erixon.
The news was also characterized by a social media tongue exchange between executive producer and director Ben Stiller and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Stiller took X (formerly Twitter) to tweak Apple’s boss directly, saying, “What do some fans seeking season 3 of retirement say with @tim_cook?” Cook said, “Retirement season 3 is available on request. – Tim C” should consider the officially granted request.
“Retirement was one of the most creatively and exciting experiences I’ve ever been involved in,” Stiller said. “I don’t have this memory, but it is said that Season 3 will be equally fun, but the memories of these future events will be irreparably wiped out from my memories.”
Adam Scott, who stars as Mark Scout, a Lumon employee, shared his enthusiasm for the update.
“The idea of resigning more with the greatest cast and crew on the planet is more thrilling than combining all the finger traps in the world.
Matt Cherniss, Head of Programming at Apple TV+, also praised the creative team, saying, “It’s undeniable that Ben, Dan, Adam, the talented cast and crew have brought to the screen. It’s the home of this amazing series and we look forward to experiencing what we’ll experience for Season 3.”
The cast includes Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro and Christopher Walken, and his retirement follows the Lumon Industries team, where employees undergo a procedure to surgically divide memory between work and personal life. Season 2 explored the consequences of violating the retirement barrier as Mark and his friends found themselves deeply in the mystery of Loumon. The second season also featured new regulars Sarah Bock and Olafar Dali Dali Rollafson.
The first two seasons of his retirement are streaming globally on Apple TV+. The release date for Season 3 has not been announced yet. After a long wait between seasons 1 and 2, I hope the next chapter will get the clock in faster.
