As reported by TechCrunch, streaming company Plex just announced that it will be introducing a new review feature for TV shows and movies. With carefully selected reviews from other Plex users, professional critics, and friends, it’s perfect for those who want to quickly find good things to watch. This move puts Plex in direct competition with apps like Letterboxd.
A social media component will also be added to this toolset. Reviews can be shared not only with friends, but also with friends of friends. The company says it will eventually roll out an update that will allow you to share ratings and reviews with everyone who uses Plex. This feature is currently in beta and you can sign up using your verified email address in the web interface or mobile app.

Of course, reviews must follow Plex’s Community Guidelines, so keep them family-friendly. Once enabled, you’ll be able to access the new Ratings & Reviews option in Settings to adjust your criteria. These settings can be adjusted to only show reviews from Plex users, critics, or a combination of both.
The update follows the app’s Discover Together feature, which allows users to create a profile on the app, follow friends and see personalized recommendations. Plex has been aggressively raising investment capital lately. It hit $40 million earlier this year and $50 million in 2021.
For the uninitiated, Plex is a very popular free ad-supported TV (FAST) streaming app. We’ve put together a quick list of the best live TV streaming services. However, it also acts as a portal to other streaming platforms, making it a centralized entertainment hub.
