PlayStation Portal’s Cloud Streaming has officially been released from beta today with a number of new features.
The new update brings 3D audio support when using Remote Play and cloud streaming, the ability to passcode lock the PlayStation Portal, and a new network status screen to quickly check connection quality.
With this new update, you can now cloud stream over 2,000 games from the PlayStation Plus Games/Classic catalog as well as your own library of purchased games on the PlayStation Portal.
The home screen has also been redesigned, adding multiple tabs like Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search, as well as an in-game store, game invites, and new accessibility options.
Unfortunately, there’s no word yet that PlayStation cloud streaming will be coming to Australia, but the ability to stream your own library seems to be building excitement.
New features on PlayStation Portal
3D audio support: 3D audio is now available during remote play and cloud streaming in supported games if you have a compatible audio device. Immerse yourself in spatial sound using wired headphones or a compatible PlayStation Link wireless audio device like Pulse Explore wireless earbuds or Pulse Elite wireless headset. Passcode Lock: Secure your device by setting a passcode in the PS Portal. To set a passcode, go to (Settings) > (System) > (Passcode). Network Status Screen: A stable internet connection is essential to ensure the best experience with PS Portal. You can now quickly check the quality of your connection with an easy-to-access status view. During cloud streaming or remote play, open (Quick Menu) and go to (Troubleshooting) > (View Network Status).
NEW PLAYSTATION PORTAL UI (not available in Australia)
Remote Play Home Screen: Connect to a PS5 console that’s paired with PS Portal and enjoy the games installed on that console. Remote play does not require a PlayStation Plus subscription. Cloud Streaming Home Screen: A new home screen dedicated to cloud streaming allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to instantly stream a variety of compatible PS5 games without waiting for downloads. Search screen: Quickly search for games that support cloud streaming. If you don’t have rights to stream the game, you’ll see a QR code that directs you to the PlayStation App or a web browser on another device.
