It’s no secret at this point how difficult it has been to get a 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro, not only in Australia but also in the US and Europe, where it’s only available at the top tier of EB Games’ membership program or behind JB Hi. The only available console is locked. -FI Ballot.
PlayStation Japan had a great idea, probably still useless in the quantities available, but at least let people know that only the most die-hard PlayStation fans would be able to get their hands on it.
To purchase the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro in Japan, register for a PlayStation Network account between February 22, 2024 and September 19, 2024 (the date the collection was announced), and purchase the 2020 PS5 Pro on either date. I had to play at least 30 hours between two dates. PS5 or PS4.
These people introduced a two-week reservation system, with a lottery if the number of participants exceeded capacity (much like the JB system).
At the moment, it’s still not that big of a time for potential entrants. But I love the concept of not allowing people to just create an account and get it. This was similar to what EB Games does. And second, you had to actually be playing the game on a PlayStation.
It also appears that you need to log in with this account to enter the store. So it’s impossible for the system to get clogged by window shopping for other items, which I don’t think happened with EB Games.
Here are the exact regulations from the PlayStation Japan website:
“For those who have registered a Sony account in Japan and are using PlayStation Network. From Saturday, February 22, 2014 to Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 11:00 p.m., while signed in with a Sony account, you can use your PS5 or PS4, or both were powered on for a total of 30 hours or more.”
