Sony has officially unveiled its new console, the PS5, for the first time.
With millions of gamers watching intently, the tech giant launched a live stream to announce its long-awaited PS4 sequel. So, will it live up to the hype?

Before the event started, 800,000 fans tuned in, and at its peak, more than 2 million people watched.
After looking back at the success of previous consoles, including the PS4 released in 2013, Sony finally gave everyone what they wanted.

The majority of the two-hour stream was spent showing off Sony’s game design and new capabilities in new titles, with the last three minutes showing off a long-anticipated design.

Perhaps the most interesting development in this announcement is that the PS5 will be offered in two initial models. PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition.
The digital editions appear to have the same body as the regular editions, but they all lack the disc tray. This means that players can download games digitally from the PlayStation Store and do not need a disc to run the game.
Sony has been tight-lipped about the PS5’s more advantageous features, but it did reveal a few.

3D Audio: A feature that enables 360-degree audio via a new headset released with the console.

The live stream was Full HD only, but the console supports 4K gameplay. There was speculation that the PS5 could support higher resolutions such as 6K or 8K, but there was no official announcement.
Its predecessor, the PS4, was launched in November 2013 and has since sold more than 100 million units worldwide.
PS5 is scheduled to be released on Christmas 2020.
