Disney+ has released the official teaser trailer for Paradise Season 2, giving fans a first look at the next chapter of the sci-fi thriller series directed by Sterling K. Brown. The footage was broadcast live in front of a CCXP Brazil audience and later posted online, teasing a season divided between a broken world above and a fragile society below. Watch the teaser above and read more.
cracked world
Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of last year’s finale, with Xavier (Brown) venturing outside for the first time in three years to search for Teri (Maruka Okuma) and discovering that the outside world is not what the people of Paradise believed. Disney+ succinctly describes the new chapter as, “Xavier searches for Teri across the world and learns how people survived three years after The Day.”
Even back in Paradise, the condition of the bunker is not very good. The teaser hints at rising tensions, strained relationships, and a city still reeling from the chaos of season one. As the community tries to regain its footing, “new secrets about the city’s origins are revealed” – a line that should get every fan’s theory engine roaring once again.
During a panel discussion, Brown told the CCXP audience how this season will expand the scope of the show. As quoted by IGN, he said, “So for three years I was in this place isolated from the rest of the world, thinking the rest of the world was destroyed and there was no one else.” “And then when you finally get out into the outside world, you see people surviving.” He added that the season explores “humanity’s resourcefulness in finding ways to survive when there seemed to be no way to survive, and people banding together to share resources.”
Brown also emphasized the core of the series. “There’s a part of me that has to trust and believe in the goodwill of people, right? The only way to survive something is to get through it together. If everyone’s always afraid of someone else, it’s just a war. At some point, you have to come together and fight as a team.”
A growing cast and an even bigger mystery
Brown will be joined by Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Kris Marshall, Nuka Okuma, Aliyah Mastin, Percy Daggs IV, and Charlie Evans. Season 2 features recurring guest appearances by James Marsden, Shailene Woodley, Thomas Doherty, and John Beavers, with Woodley joining Fogelman and Brown on stage at CCXP to reveal a teaser and new key art.
A three-year time jump opens the door to new world-building, new alliances, and a broader look at how those outside the bunker survived the day. Meanwhile, the denizens of Paradise appear to be moving toward a resolution to the civil war, and the teaser hints at unrest and reflections on the city’s true purpose and creation.
The alluring promise of further big reveals comes at the end of the teaser, where Nicholson’s Sinatra tells someone, “It was never just about the bunker.”
