The Games Festivals and Events Fund supports the production, promotion and presentation of Australian games festivals and events that significantly benefit Australia’s games production community. The grant will fund festivals, conferences, workshops and events that provide exhibition, networking, speaking and community-building opportunities for Australian game makers.

The aim of the program is to support events that are of clear benefit to the Australian games industry, timely and relevant to the Australian games production landscape.
What funding is available?
Applications can be made for a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $100,000. It is expected that events supported through this fund will generally be held within Australia. However, if your event is going to be held internationally and has significant benefits for Australian game makers, please bring it up in your first conversation with Screen Australia.
Who is eligible to apply?
An organization that organizes public or industry events designed to advance the standing of Australian games and game manufacturers. Applicants must apply as an Australian company. Individuals or sole proprietorships are not eligible to apply. To make sure your company is eligible for Screen Australia funding, you should read our Terms and Conditions. This program is intended to support large-scale events and festivals. Therefore, individual game release events are not eligible for application. All applicants and projects must also meet the eligibility criteria under Screen Australia’s Terms and Conditions.
Who is not eligible to apply?
An event that only features games that are not played on digital devices with screens. That is, games that are not fully digital, such as board games or digital/physical hybrid games.
Applications solely for the purpose of funding travel to national or international events will not be supported by this fund. For international events, funds must be used for the event itself (not associated travel).
Events that introduce or feature games such as:
constitutes gambling or is a simulation of gambling;
Features or links to exploitative or unethical Pay-to-Win or Play-to-Ear mechanisms;
Involves or is connected to high-risk and volatile trading products or technologies;
Including (or linking to) content or mechanisms that violate laws or regulations
Primarily intended for education, training, simulation, or research purposes.
In Screen Australia’s reasonable opinion, it may be difficult to qualify for Australian classification because it contains content that:
Direct or encourage crime, brutality, or violence. Depictions of frequent and/or high impact violent sexual acts. sexual violence. Exploitative depictions, instructional illegal drug use. Encouraging illegal drug use. Use of illegal interactive drugs Other content that violates general community standards
How do I apply?

Applications can then be made via the SmartyGrants application portal at least four months before the activity start date. As part of your application, you must submit the following information and supporting materials:
A fully completed application, including contact details and confirmation of eligibility A proposal or action plan outlining at least the following: The goals of the event and how it reflects the evaluation criteria The event will be targeted for. Audience A clear timeline including the announcement date, ticket release date (if the event is ticketed), event date, venue (including confirmation letter from the venue if applicable), and an overview of the team hosting the event.
Evaluation process and criteria
The program administration team reviews each application to determine eligibility and ensure that the required application materials are provided. Once eligibility is verified, applicants will receive an email notifying them that their application has progressed to evaluation and the estimated timeframe for notification of results.
Screen Australia executives and/or industry experts will assess all applications against the objectives and evaluation criteria of the competition festival and event program and the strengths and capabilities of the applicant organization.
Evaluation criteria:
The proposed activities will connect Australian game makers with each other and the wider industry (including overseas) to inform and/or introduce Australian games and/or game makers. The proposed activities will have clear benefits to the reputation of the Australian gaming industry (domestically and/or both). The proposed activities are timely and relevant to the current state of game production in Australia The strength of the budget provided, including appropriate creative practitioner and speaker fees Contributions from other partners and sources the scope and scale of the proposed activity; the experience of the applicant company and core team to be suitable to successfully deliver the proposed activity; and the level of support provided by Screen Australia. Alignment with the strategic goals and vision of Screen Australia’s objectives Alignment with application and diversity, equity and inclusion
Applicants will be notified of their results within 4-6 weeks after their application is approved.
We aim to make the application and evaluation process as transparent as possible, but given the volume of applications we receive, we may lack the resources to provide feedback on each proposal.
Funding conditions
If your application is successful, you will need to enter into a Screen Australia grant agreement with certain non-negotiable basic conditions.
Funding is provided in the form of non-recoverable grants.
