The straw hat doesn’t go anywhere, but it doesn’t go ahead. In the annual One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, Netflix revealed the first look trailer for One Piece Season 2 (now officially subtitled on the Grand Line).
New footage teases the next leg of Monkey D. Luffy’s journey, with the crew’s eyesight set on the legendary Grand Line and a collision course with the secret Baroque Works organization.
The trailer shows the towering giant brogie (Brendan Murray) looming over Robin. Robin gets a glimpse of Vivi, also known as Miss Wednesday, played by Charitra Chandran, and Lela Abova’s mistakes use her Hana Hana No Mi Devil Fruit Power. Strangely enough, the footage rules out signs of reindeer hybrid Tony Tony Chopper of Drum Island and fans’ funny things that would be voiced and taken away from their performance.
New face, new threat
In season 2, Luffy, Rorono Azoro (McKennew), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero), Sanji (Tazuschuyler) – Straw Hat navigates a strange island and encounters a terrifying new enemy. Among them is played by Mr. 0/Circrocodile, Joe Manganiello, leader of Baroque Works. Sofia Anne Caruso as Miss Golden Week. David Dastmalchian Mr. 3; and Senhir Ramamyassi as King Nefertari Cobra of Alabasta. Katey Sagal will be taking part as Dr. Kureha.
According to the official summary, the second season unleashes “the fierce enemy and the most dangerous quest ever.”
Behind the scenes and beyond season 2
Netflix has announced that production season 3 will begin in Cape Town, South Africa later this year. Season 1 co-producer Ian Stokes will be joining Joe Tracz as a co-showrunner, writer and executive producer. Tracz is currently co-operating Season 2 alongside Matt Owens, but Owens has confirmed he will leave the series after this chapter’s lap.
The live-action One Piece was produced in collaboration with Netflix’s Shueisha and Tomorrow Studios (ITV Studios Partner), with series creator Eiichiro ODA among the executive producers.
