New Zealand producers have access to new international professional development accelerators aimed at building commercially viable businesses.
In collaboration with Hinterland and Spada, applications for the Activator Screen Business Program, Brainchild of Libertine Pictures and 113 partners are currently open.
Twelve participants will participate in three two-day workshops to explore how the international market is run and how development, funding, pitching, and production differ between key areas.
Additionally, they will also conduct two-week online learning modules with LA-based screen experts and proceed to a five-day in-person market visit to Sydney, London and Los Angeles, meeting sales agents, distributors, streamers, broadcasters, financial operators, agents, managers and other industry experts.
New Zealand Film Commission, New Zealand On Air and Temangai Perho are supporting the initiative, as well as Vista Foundation, Netflix and Grant Thornton & Gallagher Insurance.
“The screen industry is dynamic and rapidly changing. It’s been around the past decade or so. We operate in an increasingly globalized market, and it’s more important than ever to be commercially viable and competitive.”
“To ensure New Zealand producers compete in this international market, we must first understand how the industry operates in key areas such as Australia, LA, and the UK, and learn how to build a commercially viable and sustainable business model that will enable us to take advantage of the unique opportunities the NZ screen industry has to offer.”
Ian Murray, CEO of Sydney-based corporate advisory firm 113 Partner, added that the accelerators have been developed to expand the export market for the Kiwi production sector.
“This is a practical and practical international professional development initiative designed to bridge the gap between creative and business skills and strengthen the capabilities of intermediate and established film and television producers with a track record in the NZ domestic market, providing a robust toolkit to navigate and excel in the ever-changing international film and television sector.”
The application will be closed on May 16th, and the program will run from July to October. Four scholarships with additional mentoring from Libertine Pictures and Hinterland are available to people in underrated communities. For more information, please click here.
