Nintendo has just dropped Nintendo Switch System Update 20.0.0, and is a huge update that prepares the system for the release of Nintendo Switch 2.
As promised, this update adds a virtual game card to allow you to load and eliminate virtual game cards between the two consoles. With Gameshare added, you can use only one card to share software from your Nintendo Switch 2.
The news and ESHOP icons have the chance to make how they line up on the Nintendo Switch 2 more inline, and perhaps the biggest update is that they can transfer Nintendo Switch data to the cloud.
Nintendo Switch 20.0.0 System Update Full Feature List
The following icons for the new feature have been added to the Home menu: The Nintendo Switch digital software, DLC, and some free software that you purchased a virtual game card will become virtual game cards and will appear in the list in this menu. Virtual game cards can be effectively loaded and ejected between up to two Nintendo Switch systems. Virtual game cards can be borrowed to others in the same Nintendo account family group. For more information, see the Virtual Game Card Guide. Gameshare compatible software can be shared from your Nintendo Switch 2 system to other nearby systems and played together. It can be played together via local wireless, and the Nintendo Switch 2 system must start game sharing. This feature cannot be used between Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch, OLED models, and/or Nintendo Switch Lite Systems. User validation settings have been added under Users > User Settings. You can restrict access to the Virtual Game Cards menu by requesting pins or signing in to your Nintendo account. Online license settings have been added. When powered on, you can play purchased download software or DLC while the system is connected to the internet, even if the virtual game card is not loaded. For more information, see the details of options on the System Settings screen. The color of the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Switch News icons on the Home menu have been changed. You can select multiple saved data and transfer it at once using the “Remove saved data” menu. System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2 is added under System Settings > System. You can perform system transfers using local communication from the Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2. For users who lose access to the Nintendo Switch before receiving the Nintendo Switch 2, they have the option to upload the system transfer data to a dedicated server. This will allow you to get it on your Nintendo Switch 2. It is recommended that you switch until you have Nintendo Switch 2 and get your Nintendo Switch 2 system, then use local communication to complete the system transfer. You will need an internet connection and a Nintendo account to complete both local and server-based system forwarding services. For more information, see System Transfer from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2. The user icon display has been updated.
