Upon leaking on Reddit, the updated Nintendo Switch 2 dock includes the RealTek RTD2175N-CG DisplayPort v1.4 to HDMI 2.1 converter. If that importance first crossed your head, you’ll be forgiven – there are many technical Gobbledygooks out there – but the HDMI 2.1 protocol may be familiar to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners.
The converter has display stream compression enabled, but supports 4K video resolutions with 60 frames per second, as well as 4K120, 8K30, and 8K60 4K frames. Given the technical specifications required, it would be stretch to assume that Switch 2 supports anything above the 4K60 output, but this adds more fuel to the speculation fire that will give you a larger bump in resolution output.
Currently, the switch only offers 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.
There’s no need to wait for official words to be made tonight regarding the technical specifications for the Nintendo Switch 2.
