The eight-part crime series, centered around an investigator who moves between the hunter and the hunted, will receive $100,000 in development funding as part of the Dynamic Television Scriptwriting Initiative.
Fox Hunt, written by Nicole Del Prado and co-producer with Kate Sepalovich, follows the mysterious Mackenzie Fox, who is seen for the first time in five years. Despite a secret past and a city full of revenge-hungry enemies, she remains determined to solve any case that comes her way.
Los Angeles-based Screen Australia and Dynamic Television are each donating $50,000 to help make the Pike Salt and Lake Martin films possible. The latter also works closely with the creators behind the project.
Ms Sepalovic, whose credits also include 2023 West Coast Vision Award winner Prokrivitas, said on LinkedIn that she and Mr Del Prado were developing “an Australian story for not just Australians but the world”. The pair added that they were “really enjoying” the project.
Screen Australia’s narrative content director Louise Gough said Fox Hunt brought a new perspective to the thriller genre.
“Nicole Del Prado’s unique vision, combined with Mackenzie Fox’s dynamic characters, provides viewers with a compelling story infused with wit and intensity,” she said.
“We and the team at Dynamic Television are proud to support such innovative storytelling that highlights Australian creative talent on the international stage.”
Carrie Stein, Dynamic’s president of Global Scripted Television, said the series is exactly what the company was looking for in this effort.
“The pilot script immediately drew our attention to the undeniable central character, who is mysterious, flawed, and cocky, then slowly and suspensefully developed to serve the overall mystery of the current season. “There’s a wonderful and surprising backstory that comes to light,” she said.
