Vince Gilligan is back and he calls Saul Star Rare Seahorn and rides a mysterious sci-fi series heading to Apple TV+. While the project is wrapped in secret, Gilligan and Seahorn recently teased some interesting details, including how much Breaking Bad Creator is pushing his signature genre bending storytelling.
Before introducing Gilligan to WGA West’s Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for TV writing, Seehorn spoke to the deadline about his reunion with the acclaimed writer director.
“To do this new show with him is so much fun that he and I develop that collaboration and understanding shorthand,” she said. “I can’t say anything nice enough about him.”
Gilligan never underestimates his admiration for Seahorn, but he made it clear that the project is built around her talent. “She’s a great pleasure to work with. I wrote a show for her. I created this new show for her,” he said.
As for the role Seehorn plays, Gilligan teased that the audience sees a very different side of the actress. “We’re looking forward to seeing the audience see Rhea play a character that’s very different to the character she played in Better Call Saul,” he said. “She plays someone who works hard to do good. She’s a slightly damaged hero, but she’s still a hero. And she’s the best, she’s so sweet and kind She’s talented, so working with her is just a joy.”
Seehorn remained tight on the details. “I can’t even tell you the title,” she admitted, but she offered a little more about what to expect in Tomory. “It’s sci-fi, but the more psychological kind of sci-fi method.”
“But I can’t wait for it to come out,” Seahorn added. “Some of the things that audiences love about his writing is not only a truly rich character, but also play around with ideas of ratios and genre and tone, like humor that was infused in very dark moments. I’m in this new show, he pushes it sometimes was very thought-provoking and upsetting. It really swings for the fence. So much fun It’s it.”
Apple TV+ secured the series in 2022 with two seasons of straight two series orders. This is a rare show of confidence in a project that brings the cards closer to the chest. The show is set in a world that reflects an unexpected twist, with comparisons to classics like ET reported
I was scheduled to film in Albuquerque, New Mexico last year. Gilligan is a showrunner and executive producer through his Hybridge Productions, and former Sony Pictures television presidents Jeff Frost and Diane Mercer are also executive producers. Jen Carroll produces it for High Bridge.
With Gilligan moving on to sci-fi and Seehorn leading the fare, expectations are high. Look forward to this fascinating project being revealed.
