A big new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has landed, giving fans a chaotic glimpse into what comes next after DC Anti-Hero. Watch the trailer above and read all the new season information straight from San Diego Comic-Con.
Peacemaker finds another universe – and more trouble
In season 2, John Cena’s Christopher Smith discovers he’s stumbling over the portal. The portal leads to a version of reality where everything seems right. However, this alternative world pushes him towards him as he confronts past trauma, causing a chain of interdimensional chaos.
The trailer shows Peacemaker finding what looks like his perfect world. Back in the real world, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is firing for him. As Leota reminds him, “No matter how green the grass over there becomes, you belong here with us.”
On Comic-Con, creator James Gunn (as quoted in Variety) said, “I really like TV shows where the characters are not just returning to each season, but the exact same characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change and regression.” He said, “This year’s Peacemaker is another guy. He deals with the demons he revealed from the first season and is trying to deal with them. The world isn’t accepting him like he is.
The trailer is also set to Ozzy Osbourne’s “Roads Anywhere.” The fitting needles fall in particular in light of the recent death of Black Sabbath Frontman at the age of 76.
Cast, cameo, dance number
Returning cast includes Cena, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma and Steve Agee. They were joined by Grillo, Sol Rodriguez, Tim Meadows and David Denman.
Harcourt gets a spotlight moment with Barroom Beatdown, a sequence gun called Favorite Day on set, until filming Episode 8.
The opening of the viral dance from season 1 was revamped with the opening of season 2, but it’s not a way to outweigh the original. “We’re not trying to make the first season one. It’s big and there’s a different vibe to it. New characters, different dancers,” Gunn explained.
The Netherlands said, “We have a great choreographer who puts James’ ideas and the vibe he was doing and created something special. I had a great time doing it. I’ve come to do the lifts and it’s great.”
Grillo said, “Dance started out like I reluctantly did and became the best dancer on stage.”
Canon Connections and Peacemaker’s DCU Future
The season is set after Gunn Superman and is firmly connected to his deployment DC universe. As we saw in the Peacemaker teaser trailer, Christopher faces grills of Justice League candidates Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawk Girl (Isabella Mercedo) and Maxwell Road (Shawngan).
Peacemaker’s father has returned too. Robert Patrick returns as Aussie’s ghost and still lurks like the racist Obi-Wan. The Alien Butterfly Goff is alive and neither is Eaglee left behind. Gunn also mentioned Michael Rooker playing the world-class Eagle Hunter. He is the character he jokingly described with Lex Luthor of Eaglee.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed three, including the premiere. His executives will be produced alongside Peter Saffron and Cena. The series is produced by Troll Court Entertainment and Safran Company in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.
