GTA 6 is not only the most anticipated video game release of all time, but the most anticipated release in the history of entertainment. Let’s just say that Grand Theft Auto fans, all 200 million of them, are excited to play the first GTA game since Rockstar Games released GTA 5 in 2013. would be sufficient. And with the new tease, they’re more excited than ever.

The big question for GTA 6 is whether Rockstar Games can live up to the hype. The release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018 suggested it was possible, but while RDR2 had high expectations, GTA 6 has expectations that are much higher. When the next Grand Theft Auto game is released, it will be a cultural moment and one of the most important points of the 2020s in this regard.
Rather than disappoint, Rockstar Games has been elevating expectations. To this end, the latest tease has set the bar as high as possible. The joke was announced at last week’s Golden Joystick Awards, when the game won the award as the most anticipated release of 2025. And during that award acceptance speech, a Rockstar Games representative teased that the game is “absolutely amazing.” Then, “It will continue.”
Of course, the latter may hint that the long-awaited second trailer is imminent, but this is the first teaser that fans have gotten their hands on. It may just be a marketing whim, but Rockstar Games has never talked about Red Dead Redemption 2 this way.
We don’t know when the next trailer will be released, but time is running out before it comes out later this year. If the second trailer is released this year, it will likely be either this week or early December. Some think it might fight back at The Game Awards 2024, but Rockstar Games is not holding an event. The day the second trailer drops deserves more attention than The Game Awards itself, so there’s no reason to share the headlines. After December 12th, the holiday season approaches. This makes it likely that the next trailer will be released in Q1 2025, closer to Rockstar Games’ next earnings release.
