Disney has released the official trailer for Freakier Friday, the long and long-awaited sequel of 2003’s Strange Friday. Yes, it’s been around 22 years since that first film. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as Tess and Anna Coleman. This time there’s more family, more confusion, and another magical exchange. Check out the trailer above and see more details below.
The sequel, directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), picks up a few years after Tess and Anna’s original identity crisis. Now raised, Anna is soon a mother with a stepdaughter, and Tess is navigating her grandmother. As a mysterious new twist forces yet another body swap, multi-generational families are thrown into another comedy mayhem and heartfelt reflection.
Returning to Disney Classic
The trailer blends physical comedy, updates family dynamics, blends callbacks to the original film, and gives fans a healthy dose of nostalgia. Curtis and Lohan are not the only familiar faces. Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon are also part of the cast, joined by newcomers Julia Butter, Sofia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Maitreila MacKrishnan, Rosalind Chao and Vanessa Byer.
“I’m excited, and it feels surreal,” Rohan said in an interview with Elle. “I didn’t think I was going to do a movie with a sequel. That’s something you really don’t think about. And when you do it, and bring in a character you knew so well, and in a way, it’s exciting.
Looking back at his return to Disney, Lohan added: “I was 10 so I felt really special (when I auditioned for my kintrap), I’m 38 now, and at this point I’m back there and share it with my husband and son.
She also explained the tone of the film. “It’s easy. When we’re making it, everything feels safe. I feel that’s the best way to explain what it feels like when I see it and when I feel it. I danced at the end.
