New “Bring Her Back” trailer: “Talk To Me” director returns with more uneasy horror

The official trailer arrived to bring her back. It looks like a terrifying new horror film from Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Phillippo. Following their successful breakout at 2023’s Talk To Me, the brothers are back in another dark story. This time we focus on some very dark rituals with a scary foster parent. Look up.

Although the details are intentionally sparse, the film follows a brother and sister who cares for a hidden foster parent (played by Sally Hawkins) who is too good to deal with after his losses. As the uneasy trailer teases, it appears there is an ominous ritual involving Oliver, another strange young resident in the house.

The project is personal to Phillips, who revealed the emotional inspiration behind the script. “We brought her back while writing and my cousin lost her two years old,” Danny said at a recent Q&A event. “We were in the hospital. I was watching her in bed and hugging this child. The family was around him. In the end, everyone let him go. And my cousin was the last person to let him go.”

He continued. “Horror is a fun way to see such darkness… The idea of an endless cycle of sadness is scary to me, and seeing such raw sadness is scary. That happened while we were writing.

The trailer itself is unsettling, but I’m careful not to give up too much. It’s entirely by design. “I look at the trailer and remember every shot of the trailer,” Michael said. “And I find myself, I watch the film and wait for those moments. And you say, “Well, they know they’re alive, because it’s not happening in this scene. And because you want to sell the film, it’s always that balance, but you don’t want to ruin it.

Incidentally, the cast of the film, filmed in the hometown of the Phillip brothers in Adelaide, South Australia, includes Billy Barratt, Stephen Phillips, Sally Anne Upton, Jonah Len Phillips, Olga Miller, Misha Haywood, Liam Demons and Arena Bell Chambers.

Just in case you missed it, be sure to check out the interview we were lucky enough to score with the Lead manager to talk to my release. Here.

Bring Her Back will be released in Australian cinemas on May 29th and in US films on May 30th.
