John Wick: The latest trailer for alias Ballerina from the Ballerina World offered many Anna Delmas in ass kick mode. The spinoff, set firmly within the John Wick universe, casts us on a brutal underworld of assassins, secret pacts, and beautifully choreographed violence.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – This new chapter, held between the events of Parabellum and Chapter 4, follows Eve Macalos (de Armas), a trained killer raised by Lasca Roma. She’s not another assassin who punches the clock. Eve has a personal mission and hunts the man who murdered his father. And, as you would expect in the Wick world, such a vendetta will have serious consequences.
The trailer teases a lot of things that tick this franchise: smooth gunfights, stylized combat, and a rich, dark world inhabited by deadly professionals. You can also get a glimpse into Eve’s fighting style. It’s fast, efficient and surprisingly elegant. “Since she is a ballerina, she is very good in close combat battles, she is fast and always three steps ahead,” De Armas said in an interview with IGN. “Use real objects as weapons and turn simple things into deadly. This is the quality I love.”
The trailer also shows many of his meetings with Eve other than John Wick himself. Keanu Reeves returns in full Baba Yaga mode as well as short cameos. The first trailer confirmed the appearance of Wick. This confirms that they face off in battle. It’s definitely cool to watch, but there’s a nagging feeling that this might be better left to surprise us at the cinema. It’s one thing to know they’ll meet. Do you know they’ll fight? Well, that takes a bit of mystery from that.
That said, De Armas only praises his influence on Reeves and set. “I’ve already been able to work with Keanu three times. The ballerina was especially special because I had stepped into his world. The world of John Wick, loved by the fans,” she said. “When I saw him walking on the set he dressed to John, it was pretty surreal. I’ll never forget that day.”
She continued. “Keane has always had a huge impact on me since the day we met. I wasn’t planning on working with him again.
The film is directed by Len Weissman. Len Wiseman’s credits include Underworld, Die Hard 4.0 (aka Live Free or Die Hard), and 2012 Total Recall. Participating in De Armas and Reeves No Screen includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will open at Australian Cinemas on June 5th and in the US on June 6th.
