Netflix has won the official trailer for Frankenstein, the story of Mary Shelley from Guillermo del Toro, and has announced Australian star Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) as Victor Frankenstein as Creature and Oscar Isaac (Ex Macina, Star Wars). Check out the trailer above and read the essentials.
“My maker told his story,” the creature of Jacob Elordi whispers on a tower covered in lightning. “And I will… teach you what mine.” This time, the focus has shifted from Victor to his creation – when it matters, statues-like, almost delicate, and terrifying. This footage shows the creature hunting his maker and charging bullet ail, so he abandons the horrifying ultimate: “If you don’t give me love, I’ll indulge in anger.”
The trailer culminates in Victor, facing his creation, illuminates a stick of dynamite and says, “Run now.”
Del Toro Designs: Baby, Philosopher, Soldier
“He needs to feel like a baby, then he needs to feel like a philosopher like a man,” Del Toro tells Netflix’s Tudum. His version eradicates the origins of the Crimean War. This is “the body connected from the frozen bodies of soldiers found on a shattered battlefield.” Or, as the director says, “He works with a large number of mutilated bodies… this is basically a soldier who has been resurrected from the tomb of the masses.”
Erorudi’s Playbook
For performance clues, Erorudi formed a Japanese dance theatre, even portraying his own golden retriever. He said of his dog’s influence: “There is a real innocence in the way she moves and the way she loves.”
Cast and release date
Participants in Elordi and Isaac are Mia Goth (no strangers in horror), Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance and Ralph Ineson.
Frankenstein will open on October 17th at Select US Cinemas and arrive on November 7th at Netflix.
