Netflix has officially announced the release date of Beef season 2. The anthology series returns on April 16th with a fresh story and a new set of characters led by a strong cast.
Rather than restoring Danny and Amy’s relationship, Season 2 completely resets the board. Different feuds, different social ecosystems, and a new set of personalities ready to make questionable decisions. Here’s what we know so far:
What is Beef Season 2?
Season 2 begins with a young couple witnessing a violent conflict between a boss and his wife. More than just a private breakdown, the incident set off a chain reaction of favor, influence and quiet coercion within the secluded world of a country club with ties to the South Korean billionaire owner.
As with season 1, the tension here seems to hinge less on the initial spark and more on what it unleashes. In such a situation, you can expect egos, resentments, class pressures, and selfishness to build up quickly.
Who is in the cast of Beef Season 2?
The new ensemble is led by Oscar Isaac as Josh and Carey Mulligan as Lindsay. Co-stars include Kailey Spaney as Ashley, Charles Melton as Austin, Yoon Yoo-jung as Chairman Park, Song Kang-ho as Dr. Kim, Jang So-young as Eunice, William Fichtner as Troy, Michaela Huber as Eva, and musician BM who will be making his acting debut as Wooshu.
Who is behind the scenes this time?
Creator Lee Sung-jin will return as showrunner and executive producer, and A24 will once again be in charge of producing. First season stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong remain attached as executive producers, along with Jake Schreier, Charles Melton, Mulligan, Isaac and Spaeny.
What episode is it?
Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, each lasting 30 minutes. Season 1 had 10 episodes, but its short runtime suggests it maintains the lean structure that helped keep Season 1 sharp and tight-paced.
A quick review of Beef Season 1
In the first season, a road rage incident devolves into a relentless psychological war between struggling contractor Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and ostensibly successful entrepreneur Amy Lau (Ali Wong). Over 10 episodes, their grudge slowly hollowed out their relationships, careers, and sense of control.
The series, inspired by real-life encounters experienced by Lee, premiered in 2023 and became one of the most award-winning anthology shows of the 2023-2024 season, winning major awards at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and more.
With a new setting, different social classes, and new combustible personalities, Beef Season 2 looks set to explore the same uncomfortable emotional territory from a completely different angle when it premieres this April.
