Michelle Yeo joins one of the biggest animated films ever
“I am honored to be part of Ne Zha 2, a landmark of Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories are,” Yeoh said in a statement. “It’s a great joy to share this with your audience in English. Everyone can’t wait to experience the wonders, heart, epic artistry and magic of this film on the big screen.”
Ne Zha 2 was written and directed by Yang Yu and made box office history since its first release in January. Currently, it ranks as the highest-selling animated film of all time, the most grown non-English film to date, and the eighth highest growing film globally.
Mythical epic with large global appeal
The film follows Neza, a rebellious boy born in wild power and feared by the gods. Based on ancient Taoist mythology, told in drastic and visually rich animation, the film is based on the legacy of the 2019 hit Ne Zha. This has been a huge success in China and overseas as well.
The production at Ne Zha 2 lasted five years, with over 4,000 crew members of 138 Chinese animation studios contributing to the epic. The final result has been praised for its emotional storytelling and stunning visuals, earning the year’s best animated film ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming one of the most acclaimed titles on LetterboxD.
An innovative release of Chinese animation
The English version shows a huge expansion for the film’s global reach. Ne Zha 2 features photos from CMC, boasting a distribution network spanning over 100 countries and 500 cities, so it is set to continue its box office momentum as it reaches a wider audience.
It is another milestone in Chinese animation, and as Michelle Yeau lends her voice to the mythical tale, this new version offers even more viewers the opportunity to experience one of the most talked about films this year.
