Liam Neeson is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but his most important role is as a doting father to his two sons, actors Michael and Daniel, with his late wife Natasha Richardson.
Following his mother’s tragic death in a skiing accident in 2009, he revealed in a new interview that his main focus was “making sure they were okay.”
In a new interview with People magazine published overnight, he also paid tribute to Richardson’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and his sister, Joely Richardson, and expressed their support for Richardson’s continued work. “They stepped up to help” take care of the boys, he said.

On March 16, 2009, Richardson was at the Mont-Tremblant ski area in Canada with her sons, then aged 13 and 12, when she fell and hit her head while skiing on the beginner slope.
She refused treatment and returned to her room before her symptoms worsened and she was taken to the hospital.
She suffered a traumatic brain injury and died two days later after being taken to a New York hospital. She was 45 years old.

Neeson, now 72, spoke about Richardson’s death and its aftermath in a new interview with People magazine.
“Something terrible happened,” Neeson said.
He said his early priority was to ensure the safety of his sons, but he also said he was forced to work because “working class people in Ireland have to take any job.” .

To make that happen, his wife’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister, Joely Richardson, stepped in to help care for the boys while he was away on location.
“Everyone came together. Vanessa and Joely were extraordinary,” he said.
“We were lucky in many ways.”

Neeson has appeared in over 100 films, many of which were filmed in the 15 years following his wife’s death.
Michael, now 29, is an actor who professionally changed his last name from Neeson to Richardson in honor of his mother and her acting dynasty.
Neeson, who played opposite her father in the 2020 comedy-drama Made in Italy, thinks Natasha would be happy to join the family business.
“Natasha would be proud too, I hope so,” he said.
Meanwhile, Daniel, now 27 years old, is a businessman who launched his own clothing line while in college and now owns a tequila brand.
Earlier this year, he paid tribute to his mother on Instagram on the 15th anniversary of her death.
Neeson told People that the trio remains close and often watch movies and TV shows together.
Neeson’s new movie “Absolution” will be released next month. He plays an aging gangster who tries to reconnect with his children and right the wrongs of his past.
