Did you miss episode 2 of The Amazing Race Australia Celebrity Edition? Nat and Mel faced their fears and challenges. Find out what led to their emotional exclusion.
The second episode of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition took viewers on a whirlwind of emotions as the team navigated fear, frustration and local traditions through the beautiful landscape of northwest Argentina.
Starting from Salta, the 10 teams embarked on a journey to the summit of Cerro San Bernardo, enjoying panoramic views before descending by cable car. This was no ordinary ride for sisters Nat and Mel. As they prepare to descend, Mel reveals a deep fear of heights, resulting in a tense and emotional moment. She bravely faced her fears through tears as her sister Nat provided support.

“I thought I was afraid of heights, so when I heard my sister say she was scared, I was shocked to see her like that. I just tried to calm her down and keep her focused. It was really terrible to see someone you love and care about in such fear,” Nat said.
“She was so proud of herself for getting through it. It really took her out of her comfort zone and showed her what she was capable of when faced with fear. It was really tough. It was one of the most beautiful experiences.”
The action continued with the first roadblock, where one team member had to identify a dancer wearing a particular fabric swatch among a group of colorful traditional costumes. After identifying the correct dancer, racers had to remember and select the matching medallion to get the next clue.
The next stage is Detour, where teams can choose between two tasks: “Strong Stomach” or “Soft Touch.” In Soft Touch, contestants are challenged to milk at least 2 kilograms of goat, while in Strong Stomach, contestants face the daunting prospect of eating cabeza guateada (a cow’s head cooked underground). I faced it. Not everyone took up the challenge, with Jett Kenny and Lily Brown opting for a one-hour penalty instead of consuming their tongues and eyeballs.
Meanwhile, Nat and Mel face a major setback. They took a wrong turn and lost valuable time by driving in the opposite direction for an hour. Nevertheless, they witnessed the birth of a baby goat and had a unique, frustrating but uplifting experience.
The final challenge, which celebrated Argentina’s gaucho culture, required teams to learn and perform a series of horseback riding maneuvers. The sisters fought hard to make up time, but Jett and Lily’s penalty ended just before Nat and Mel reached their pit stop. A sprint to the finish line against Eden Daly and Cyrell Paul ended in defeat, with the sisters eliminated from the race as the second team.
“We couldn’t catch up with them.”

Nat reflected.
“We kept saying how grateful we were to have had this experience. It was bittersweet… It was definitely disappointing to see it all come and go and gather dust, but at the same time, to be honest… It was one of the best things I’ve done in my life, and sharing it with my sister was another highlight.
The two participated in a race to raise awareness and funds for the Black Dog Institute, an organization dedicated to supporting mental health and suicide prevention through research, treatment and community resources.
