“Matlock” has been renewed for a second season early on CBS, Variety reported.
The news was announced just before the broadcast network aired the third episode of the series. The series, starring Kathy Bates, serves as a reimagining of the series of the same name starring Andy Griffith. Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, David Del Rio, and Leah Lewis also star.
“This reimagined Matlock, conceived by Jenny Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, is the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates. “As soon as we saw it, we knew we had something special,” said company president Amy Reisenbach. “Matlock” has proven popular with critics and viewers since its Sept. 22 release. The series currently has a 100% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The first episode earned a Nielsen Live+Same Day rating of 0.44 and 7.7 million viewers, rising to a 0.62 rating and 10.4 million viewers on Live+7.
Bates stars in the series as Madeleine “Mattie” Matlock, a “brilliant septuagenarian woman who achieved success in her youth and decides to rejoin a prestigious law firm with a modest demeanor and… He uses cunning tactics to win lawsuits.” while investigating her own very personal secrets. ”
Jenny Snyder Urman developed Matlock and will serve as executive producer. Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Kat Coiro and Bates also serve as executive producers. Produced by CBS Studios. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
