The verdict is out on CBS’ “Matlock” reboot. Tiffany Network renewed the legal drama for a second season after just two episodes aired.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement: “This reimagined ‘Matlock’ was conceived by Jenny Snyder Urman with a stunning surprise plot twist; “The moment I saw the first episode brought to life by Arman, I knew we had something special.” The incredibly talented Kathy Bates. Audience reception and critical acclaim were overwhelming. I can’t wait for the second season to start. ”
Bates plays Madeline Kingston, a socialite matron. She impersonates Madeline “Mattie” Matlock, seeking a job at the law firm responsible for her daughter’s death due to opioid addiction. These two roles are important ones for the Oscar winner and seem certain to bring her more awards.
We predict Bates will win Best Actress at both the Golden Globe and SAG Awards, facing off against Emmy champion Anna Sawai (Shogun). And since Sawai’s show won’t be available in time for next year’s Emmy Awards, there’s a good chance Bates will be the frontrunner in that race. She has already won two Emmy Awards for her guest role in Two and a Half Men (2012) and her scene-stealing supporting role in American Horror Story: Coven (2014).
