The new version of Matlock won the case. After just two episodes, CBS renewed the series for a second season, scheduled to debut in the 2025-2026 broadcast television season. It’s unclear how many episodes of the first season are left.
A reimagining of the 1980s and 90s courtroom drama of the same name, the Matlock TV series stars Kathy Bates, Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, David Del Rio, and Leah Lewis. Madeline “Mattie” Matlock (Bates) is a successful woman in her 70s who finds success in her youth and decides to rejoin a prestigious law firm. So she uses her low-key demeanor and cunning tactics to win the case. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Marshall), a senior lawyer and an important rainmaker who is thirsty for justice. Julian (Ritter), Olympia’s ex-husband and the son of the company’s president, takes an interest in Matti and her clever skills. As Matty tries to establish himself in a new, high-stakes world, he teams up with younger colleagues at the company, including the charismatic Billy (Del Rio) and the ambitious Sarah (Lewis). I will work. Matty takes it easy on the fact that she shares the same last name as a classic TV lawyer, but is ready to tackle today’s cases in her own unique style. There’s more to this lovely little lady than meets the eye.
The first season of Matlock, which airs on Thursday nights, currently averages a 0.40 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.06 million viewers (including DVR playback until 3 a.m.) include). It is currently the second most-watched scripted series on CBS this season, behind Trackers.
